The executive committee of the WFCCA and officers of the Sully District Council (SDC) have been conducting joint meetings to discuss the potential of a merger of the two organizations. The meetings are focused on determining a common agenda and mission as well as an analysis of the subject organizations’ bylaws. The overall intent of this activity is to develop a draft merger proposal and bylaws to be presented to the respective member bodies for discussion and ultimately a vote on whether or not to proceed with a merger. To be clear, this activity will result in a proposal and no action will be taken or decision made without full agreement by both member bodies.
Western Fairfax was originally part of the Springfield District (prior to the formation of the Sully District) and 30 years ago the WFCCA was formed to focus on the needs and interests of the communities of Western Fairfax as those needs differed from the rest of the district. From that time, the WFCCA has been actively assessing and providing input to the development process with a focus on the unique needs of western Fairfax. As development activity in western Fairfax has slowed, it has become apparent that the objectives of the WFCCA and SDC are more common and that there is a case to be made to pool resources into one organization providing a stronger voice for the interests of all communities in western Fairfax and in the Sully District. While differences and considerations remain, the two groups are meeting regularly to discuss the details and plan to provide a draft proposal in October with a target decision date to be in January 2012. We will be providing an update during the July quarterly meeting and welcome your input.
